what’s the difference between preserved and dried flowers

Preserved and dried flowers are getting more and more popular these years. A variety of foliage is favoured by florists, such as dried pampas grass, dried roses, dried eucalyptus, preserved roses and preserved eucalyptus etc. Although both preserved and dried flowers could last for a long time, they are actually different in many ways. In this article, we will discuss the main differences between preserved and dried flowers.

1. The production process of Preserved and Dried Flowers

The production method shows a significant difference between preserved and dried flowers. Although both are made of natural flowers, the production method of preserved flowers is more troublesome. They are dehydrated, decolourized, dried, dyed, etc. It is processed by a series of complex processes, which preserves the softness of flowers and looks no different from fresh flowers.

Here we take preserved Craspedia (billy ball) as an example to show the common procedure of preserved flowers.

On the other hand, dried flowers are made using natural air-drying, microwave oven drying and other methods to remove the moisture in the flowers.

Rose stems are commonly used in both fresh flowers bouquets and dried flowers bouquets, here is how we process the dried rose stems in our factory.

2. The texture of Preserved and Dried Flowers

Preserved flowers are made by a special method. The flowers are eluted to remove the contents of plant cells – sugar, fat, etc. The fresh-keeping and dyed plant cells maintain their natural structure, shape and colour, so The feeling to the touch is no different from that of fresh flowers;

However, dried flowers are different, made by dehydrating fresh flowers, so the texture might be dry to the touch.

4. Lasting time Of Preserved and Dried Flowers

Preserved flower is a kind of flower that can be stored for a long time. It maintains the characteristics of flowers and the bright colour of flowers. Normally, the preserved flowers can be stored for at least 3 years. That’s why flower designs and home decoration favour it.

The preservation of dried flowers is also relatively long, but the storage is relatively troublesome and must be placed in a dry and ventilated place, otherwise, the dried flowers will be easily damp and corrupt.
